Conservation Review of Public Art Commissions
B. R. Howard offers nationwide public art conservation reviews on new commission designs before the fabrication process and installation. Our conservators will review the fabrication and design drawings, examine the materials, coatings, fasteners, and can even oversee the installations. This review also includes a long-term maintenance guideline to ensure each piece is properly cared for.
Having a conservator involved in the planning and review process is a small expense and a great way to avoid costly premature restorations. We can identify problems in advance and find solutions to prevent unnecessary aggravation in the future.
Our conservators regularly work with artists, designers, city planners, and engineers. Our staff are members or Professional Associates of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC), the Association for Preservation Technology International (APTI), Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), and are NACE trained in coatings inspection using non-destructive techniques.
Public art assets are central to a community's vitality and should be properly maintained
Public art is created with purpose in reflection of the community itself and can take form as sculpture, paintings, architectural features, and more. Countless success stories have now been shared, telling how communities have transformed and improved downtown areas using public art. Programs such as Percent for Art and grants have helped encourage communities to implement public art programs. These have successfully gained momentum and brought incredible economic value to a community, making it an asset worth properly maintaining.
